THE WCTL MODEL

PROCESS

The ‘Point of Injury’ Process adheres to three fundamental principles:

I. ‘Point of Injury’

Early Intervention protocols are designed to ensure that defined Medical and Case Management initiatives are triggered during the critical early stage of a claim when the probability of a positive outcome is greatest. Medical and Case Management begins with sound reporting procedures.

II. Medical Management

Disability is a medical issue and requires medical expertise to manage properly. True Medical Management requires a medically supported Full Return to Work (FRTW) goal date to manage to. This FRTW goal date can then be used to gauge the progress of an employee’s recovery and help ascertain timing and type of Medical Intervention. Medical Management helps ensure the accountability of the medical community with respect to the employee’s timely recovery.

III. Medically Approved & Managed Modified Work

Modified Work should be viewed as a medical concept. Occupational studies show that Modified Work can speed recovery time by up to 2 1/2 times. How and when Modified Work is accommodated is critical to achieving positive Full Return to Work outcomes.
